I have a mandala. It’s pink and I bought it for 50 cents when I was 19 in Katmandu. This Mandala is an invitation for the birthday party of a small girl called Gaia. Buon Compleanno!

Just testing this boring b&w negative on watercolour paper. 16 minute exposure, in full sun at 11.30am.
I just collected my Cyanotype watercolour paper from the post office. All the way from Washington State - I think it’s cold and foggy there, just like these prints. Ha! I’ve never been so excited about such a monumental fail.
Just you wait and see.
I’ve never heard anyone else use the term ‘twee’ except my mother. I don’t even know if it’s actually a word. The first heart is for her - all lacy and twee.
The second one is for her too because when she had a hangover (often) she would ask me to make her cups of tea in bed.
Last, my Grandmother is probably turning over in her grave at the use of ‘Mother and me’ instead of ‘Mother and I’. It’s something I frequently correct my daughter for - and she hates it just like I did, but what else are Mum’s for?!

And, yes, your eyes are too big for your head (a passing teenager told you so), but they were designed that way, so when the day arrives and your big eyes are adjusted the white will subside, the colour will seep in and your fur will feel different. Your big eyes will be able to open and close as they please, seeing the things you want them to see.

That’s an hour of my life painting triangles that I’m not going to get back. Not sure why I chose that colour scheme - it looks like it should be on an 80’s bandeau style bikini that my teenage daughter might wear.

Unfortunately not in a hotel in Amsterdam… My Mum assures me it has rained for the past 57 years on Sydney’s October long weekend. She knows because she can’t wear the new bikini she buys year in, year out at about the same time. There was nothing new this year.

I made this card for a friend of a girlfriend. It made her laugh, but the party was unattended and the card undelivered. So here it lives instead - a 50th birthday card going out to whoever you are.
I am thinking of going into making cards as I seem to be always making them for other people. I’m not sure if I will ever make it to be the level of Hallmark - they all seem to come out subversively dark. For complicated people only - perhaps. The clientèle might be a bit small for world domination on the greeting card front.

I was practising making some hand made type.
When they asked me to draw a picture of myself for a job application I knew I would get the job. It just happened to be in 1992 and I never took it. If only… what would I be doing now?
I made this as an exercise in getting a job. The more energy you put out the more it might come back. Made with a big squiggle drawing and some drop shadows in photoshop.
I used a retro colour scheme for the four frames. You can find the other four frames in my Design 2009 section.
But it wasn’t really… just green.
Sepia & chocolate. He’s almost as effortlessly colour co-ordinated as my cat.
Not quite happy with this one. It’s not abstract enough and still looks like a leaf. I only get one point for trying!
From the Collective Noun Show ‘A Murder of Crows’ at Gaffa in Surry Hills, Sydney. Apologies about the blurry pic… the iphone has been dropped a few times now.
I was in Bali for the past 9 days and took my little travelling watercolour. The thing I love most about Bali (besides Nasi Goreng and Nasi Campur!) is the plants… intricate patterns that exist in an amazing array of greens, yellows, whites, reds and pinks.
This year for Christmas everyone in my family received their own personalised typographic card. They are small watercolours on paper.
Some friends of mine are having an exhibition on collective animal nouns. I decided to join in at the last minute.
I discovered that I still like type.
It was my girlfriends Birthday yesterday and I was so in my own head I forgot! Bad friend. She told me all would be forgiven and forgotten if I just made her one of my cards… It has a Sesame Street feel to match her new striped cushions.
I was in such a hurry this morning I photographed it on my bed. How girly can you get.
I just finished my first zine for the Generic Zine Swap organised by Abbey Hendrickson in Buffalo NY. The edition of 25, each with a different hand drawn cover has ‘20 text messages from 2008 collected from my iphone (allows you to keep the whole thread of a conversation). Taken out of context some of them, as my 11 year old daughter says, make no sense at all:
