I was given my first camera as a birthday present. It was a Pentax K1000. I was 16. My Pentax was 12.
My Pentax K1000 was a mechanically controlled, manual-focused SLR with manual exposure controls. It was completely operable without batteries - which was a great thing for a girl. With it’s nice looking but tough chrome body I was able to drag my Pentax around the world… through boating mishaps, mountains, desert sands, cross process, black and white, over exposures and dirty back packs. It stopped for the last time this year. It was only 32 years old. I loved that camera.
I could have replaced it with a digital camera but I didn’t bother. I prefer the mystery of not knowing and the sometimes imperfections in the grain of the film.
